Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he believes the FA Cup win last year was a pivotal moment in the club’s history, describing the occasion as “important”.
The Gunners faced Aston Villa in last year’s final and duly delivered with a comprehensive 4-0 win thanks to goals from Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, Per Mertesacker and Olivier Giroud.
I think it was important that we won our first trophy after so long. We had our chance a few years back in the League Cup (against Birmingham) and we blew it.

Arsenal are to begin their defence of the FA Cup winners’ title against Sunderland in the third round in the new year, and Wilshere has expressed the importance of how their cup run last season motivated them to end the campaign on a high.
That was really the story of that season and we struggled for a few seasons and finally found our feet again and looked like we had a chance of winning the league.
Wilshere also believes that a career is defined on how many trophies a player has won during his tenure at the a and has identified the cup win last year as a big part of his spell at the Emirates.
At the end of the day when you look back at your career you are judged on the trophies you have as player and as a manager so it was important to get our first one.
