# Welbeck suffers injury setback

Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck has suffered a setback and won’t return in January, [according to Liam Corless of the *Mirror*](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-star-danny-welbeck-wont-7014944?).

The England international has yet to feature a single minute this season after undergoing knee surgery in September, which was supposed to rule him out until the new year at the latest.

Welbeck has not played since April and is expected to be out until at least February, making the task of convincing Roy Hodgson to take him to Euro 2016 all the more difficult.

With Welbeck unlikely to recover in the next month, it’s possible that Arsene Wenger may feel the need to dip into the transfer market for more depth up top, having just Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott as senior options.

The likes of Aleksandr Kokorin and often linked Gonzalo Higuain [are names that have cropped up over the last few weeks](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/12048072/Arsenal-transfer-news-and-rumours-Aleksandr-Kokorin-done-deal-for-the-Gunners.html) but whether they will become firm targets is yet to be seen.
