Besiktas confirm interest in Arsenal star

Recent reports suggest that Turkish side Beskitas have renewed their interest in Arsenal ‘keeper David Ospina.

Vice President Ahmed Nur Cebi of Besiktas confirmed the reports.

We are interested in Ospina.

Arsenal’s backup keeper hasn’t had too much playing time as of late, perhaps down to two things; Petr Cech’s fantastic start in an Arsenal shirt combined with underwhelming performances in the UEFA Champions League from the Colombian himself.

With Wojciech Szczesny out on loan to Roma, Ospina would have been optimistic at the start of the season about more playing time, but has been so far restricted to cup competitions, and with the Pole’s decent form in Italy, looks unlikely to remain at Arsenal beyond the season. Last season’s form appears to have been abandoned, with Ospina looking a shadow of himself in performances, notably against Olympiacos.

However, he is still a very solid keeper, and the Besiktas representative backed those sentiments.

Him and goalkeepers of his calibre, but just because we want him does not mean he will come.

We have to agree with his club and take his contract into consideration.

All things considered, it appears the 27-year-old, who has played just three times this season, may be best served with regular playing time – a move that seemingly suits all parties.
