Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey expressed his delight at finishing his side’s week on a high, after defeating Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
The victory made it three wins on the bounce for the Gunners, who beat Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium last weekend before travelling to Greece and gaining a vital three points against Olympiacos – a game which saw them qualify for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages after a shocking start to the European campaign.
The north London side finished their week by beating Aston Villa at Villa Park, with both Olivier Giroud and Ramsey himself continuing their fine goalscoring form.
Ramsey believes it was the best way to top off the week.
Yeah it was really important to finish off a good week for us. We did the job today. We took advantage of the possibility of going top of the league again so we’re delighted with that.
Speaking on the Gunners’ second goal – a move which was started in Arsenal’s half through a tackle from the Welshman, before Theo Walcott played in Mesut Ozil, who found Ramsey free in front of goal, the 24-year-old claimed it was ‘delightful’.
It was nice to be there to finish the move. It was a great move from us. We saw them losing [the ball] as an opportunity to get forward and it was a great ball by Theo in the first place. Then the vision of Ozil to play me in for a simple tap in was delightful as well. I’m delighted that I could finish it off.
With Arsenal top of the Premier League after 16 games, Ramsey reaffirmed his belief that the Gunners can win the league this season.
Of course we believe that we have an opportunity. We’ve shown so far what we are capable of doing and we just have to continue what we’re doing now. This is a busy part of the season so we have to maintain our focus and belief, get through this period and who knows what can happen in the second half. We know that we can challenge for trophies and we’ll be up for it as well.
