Campbell – Olympiacos game a ‘cup final’

Campbell – Olympiacos game a ‘cup final’

Costa Rican winger Joel Campbell believes that Arsenal’s final UEFA Champions League group game against Olympiacos is the most important of the season so far.

With just six points from their opening five, Arsenal need to win by a two-goal margin to avoiding falling through the trap-door to the Europa League.

The possibility of finishing bottom of the group could still happen, rather unlikely, but it could still happen. Dinamo Zagreb need to overturn a -nine goal difference and better the Gunners’ -1 in order to get into the Europa League. However, they will need to overturn this mammoth deficit by thrashing Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich.

Joel Campbell, 23, made his name on the world stage for Olympiacos after scoring a long-range effort against Arsenal’s rivals Manchester United during his loan spell in 2013/14.

Speaking prior to Wednesday’s fixture, he insists that despite the talent that the Greeks hold, they can still make it into the knockout stages.

We have to prepare mentally and physically for Wednesday’s game because it will be very difficult.

Campbell got on the scoresheet in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland on Saturday. The winger believes that the win can help them build for the crunch match in Greece.

The win over [Sunderland] was a good result for the team, we got the result and that’s what we wanted.

Olympiacos are currently defying all the odds and performing above expectation currently sitting second in Group F. They’re also flying high in the Greek Super League- unbeaten thus far.

At home, they’ve conceded just three goals in the league. Campbell acknowledges that he and his teammates need to be in top form.

In the Pireo (Karaiskakis Stadium) it is very difficult to get points.

It is the last game of the group stage and we will give our best.

It is the most important game of the season so far. It will be a cup final and we have to win to continue in the Champions League.
