Arsenal may spend big on South American duo

With the injury list quickly rising at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger is coming under more pressure than ever to dip into the January transfer market and according to sources, he is planning to spend big.

The main issue Wenger faces is in the forward positions with key creative players such as Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla currently out injured and Buzzsport claim that this is the issue the club plan on addressing in a months time.

The French outlet claim that at the top of Wenger’s wish list is PSG winger Lucas Moura, who has previously came close to a move to Manchester United, before joining the French giants.

The speedy wide-man would add another dimension to Arsenal’s current front line with the ability to get in behind defences and cause havoc with his pace, something the Gunners had been missing in both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s absence.

However, the 23 year-old Brazilian would come at a considerable cost; having made the move to PSG from Sao Paulo for approximately £44 million, the French club are likely to want even more than this for a player yet to reach his prime.

Another area the north Londoners are reported to be looking to strengthen is their striking department, which possesses little cover for Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott, with Danny Welbeck a constant injury worry since joining the club.

According to Gazzetta World, Inter Milan club captain Mauro Icardi is another of Arsenal’s targets, with the Italian club already refusing to entertain an offer of £28 million for their forward.

Despite a disappointing start to the season, the Argentine was joint top-scorer in Serie A last season, netting 22 goals and would provide stern competition to Giroud for a starting spot at the club.
