Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has praised teammate Joel Campbell after his impressive showing against Sunderland this weekend in the Barclays Premier League.
Following his side’s 3-1 victory of the Black Cats, Giroud spoke about how pleased he was for Costa Rican international Joel Campbell – who has struggled to break into the Arsenal first team this season – but scored the first of his side’s three with a smart finish.
I’m happy for him because he has the opportunity to show his talent. He’s a top guy who is very generous on the pitch because he never gives up.
It’s not always been easy for him but I always used to speak with him, encourage him and when he’s playing like that he’s very important for us.
Hopefully we’re going to see more of him in that form.

The Frenchman scored a goal at each end of the pitch during the game and admitted that despite being angry at scoring the own goal, he was pleased to have claimed the second of Arsenal’s goals to see them beat Sam Allardyce’s team.
I was frustrated but now I’m very pleased to score the second goal and help the team win the game.
Prior to the game against Sunderland, the Gunners had drawn three Premier League games in a row and had been on the hunt for a win to see them catch up with the top of the table. Giroud believes that his side’s victory over the Black Cats was a massive result as it gives them the boost that they need to reignite their season.
We needed this win and it was not very easy, not everything was perfect, but this win will relieve us.
