There have been a number of conflicting reports over the contract status of Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal. Some media outlets seem to have jumped the gun back in mid-October by claiming that the 29-year old had signed a three-year extension, but there have been no announcements from the club, and the latest news indicated that the parties continue to negotiate.
However, according to journalist Kike Marin, who has earned a measure of trust from Arsenal fans for his measured and sometimes-accurate news about the Gunners’ transfer dealings, has tweeted that the Spanish international is currently coveted by both Arsenal and Athletic Bilbao.

Marin’s tweet, translated, reads: The #Arsenal want to renew to Monreal, who just contract in 2017 and is bidding for 5 years of Athletic Bilbao.
Monreal has been heavily linked with a move back to Spain almost since his arrival in January of 2013, but he has also mentioned a desire to stay in London with the club.
Since winning the starting left back role from Kieran Gibbs last season, Monreal has been one of Arsène Wenger’s most dependable performers. The Gunners will be keen to tie Monreal down to a contract extension to keep him at the club.
