# Wenger – I want more from Joel

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that for Joel Campbell to keep his place in the side, he would like to see more contribution from him offensively.

The Costa Rican has been given an opportunity in the side lately after a string of injuries to the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey – meaning the Gunners have been left short on the right-hand side but Campbell has attempted to show that he is capable of playing more often at the top level.

Campbell’s first goal for Arsenal came against Swansea City in the 3-0 win at the Liberty Stadium but it is his defensive work which has been hailed most by supporters, claiming that his worth ethic has helped Hector Bellerin defensively on the right, while the Spaniard has aided his teammate in forward positions.

However, Wenger [has admitted that Campbell is a fighter](https://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20151128/-joel-is-more-confident-and-creative-) and he would like to see more from him going forward.

> *This season I didn’t want to loan him out because he has a genuine team attitude and he’s a fighter.*
>
> *What you want from him is to bring more offensively when he plays.*
>
> *Recently he has shown that when he is confident he can produce the offensive quality and also be reliable with his team attitude.*
>
> *He’s a fighter so that’s great for us. I smelt something with him that is very interesting. He’s creative. I could see* that *but the creativity is linked with the confidence. You open your eyes when you feel really free to take the initiative.*
>
> *That was a bit of his problem. At the end of the* day *you decide what’s best for the team. Ramsey is coming* back *of course, Alexis is also* there *but it’s good to move Ramsey inside during a game and give Campbell the opportunity as well.*
