Drogba – Arsenal will win the league

Didier Drogba knows a thing or two about title-winning teams, having been in four of them during his prolific Chelsea career. So when he talks about his predictions for the 2015-2016 title predictions, they may be considered worthwhile.

The Ivorian also knows a great deal about the impact of a top-flight keeper like Petr Čech, as they were teammates for a decade. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Drogba was asked about his Premier League predictions, and his choice was interesting.

I think Manchester City will be strong, as they have in the last few years. Unfortunately, Chelsea is too far, so… I will go for my friend, Petr Čech, and Arsenal.

When asked if Arsenal have enough to do so, Drogba followed up with a stern response.

They’ve got Petr Čech.

While Arsenal boast world-class talent in attack and a back four that has played well through the early part of the campaign, it is Cech that single-handedly tips the balance in the Gunners’ favour, according to Drogba.

It’s a statement of extremely high praise from a legend of the game, and Arsène Wenger’s acquisition of the Czech keeper has paid off so far this season after a shaky start. Arsenal’s defence currently boast the joint second-best record in the Premier League with only 11 goals allowed through 13 games, in large part due to Cech’s influence on the back line and his own shot-stopping abilities.

The Gunners will look to bounce back in the league from a disappointing defeat at the Hawthorns when they travel to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City on Sunday, 29th November.
