# Iwobi a target for Championship clubs

Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi is [being targeted by a number of lower league sides](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-youngster-alex-iwobi-wanted-6886598), including Championship outfits Birmingham City and Reading.

Despite Arsenal’s current injury crisis meaning that the 19-year-old stalwart has been in numerous first-team squad’s this season, it’s unlikely that he will be involved when a number of first team stars return in the next month or two. It is believed that Arsene Wenger wants to loan the Nigerian to a side who will start him regularly in order to help with his progression.

Iwobi signed his first scholarship with the Gunners in 2012 and earned a professional contract in 2014, impressing thoroughly for the under-21s in a striker role, scoring ten goals in 17 games, a tally which included an impressive hat-trick against Stoke City.

The 19-year-old has featured twice for the first-team this season, he started for the Gunners against Sheffield Wednesday in their disappointing loss at Hillsborough, although Iwobi did show some signs of trickery and potential, while making his second appearance as a late substitute against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League at the Allianz Arena.

League One side Sheffield United are also interested in the Nigerian’s services.
