According to reports in Italy, Arsenal scouts have been watching Genoa defender Armando Izzo for a possible January transfer. Arsène Wenger is thought to be eager to land the 23-year old, and the Gunners reportedly had scouts at Genoa’s match against Serie A powerhouse Napoli, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Genoa currently sit 15th in Serie A.
A player like Izzo may be viewed as potential long-term cover in central defence even though the position is currently covered well by Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, and Gabriel Paulista. However, Izzo may be seen as competition for the fourth-choice spot with Calum Chambers, who has played sparingly so far this season.

Izzo, who made 20 appearances for Genoa last season and has made 10 appearances – seven of them starts – may provide stiff competition for Chambers and his experience may see him immediately thought of as fourth-choice.
The Italian began his career in the Napoli youth academy before moving to AS Avellino in January of 2012. IN the summer of 2014, he was sold to Genoa for €200,000.
