Arsenal vice-captain and central defender Per Mertesacker has claimed that he is confident Wojciech Szczesny will return to the club and have a bright future, despite being loaned out by Arsene Wenger to Roma at the age of 25.
The Poland international lost his place in the side to David Ospina after a number of high-profile incidents and with the club bringing in Premier League legend Petr Cech, it’s unlikely that the Roma loanee will get back in the Arsenal side anytime soon.
Despite this, his former teammate, friend and World Cup winner Per Mertesacker has claimed that Szczesny is wanted at the club, not only by Arsene Wenger but also his teammates.
Wojciech wants to compete. I think he’s a good goalkeeper and he can still develop.
The team wants him back – that’s good for him. He’s shown great character already in this team and I think he has got a bright future.
Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Tony Pulis’ defensively sound West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns, with the Gunners currently second in England’s top division behind Manchester City on goal difference.
