Wenger – Why new Fifa president must have vision

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been speaking to Arsenal Magazine about a number of subjects, including the Fifa presidential elections and weighed in on what he believes the next leader of the world football organisation must posses in abundance.

With Sepp Blatter announcing his intention to relieve himself of his duties as president of the Fifa, elections have been organised for mid-February, where a new long-term leader of the governing body will be chosen. After a series of scandals and a huge ordeal regarding corruption, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that the new president must have a love for football which can help the game expand into new markets all over the world.

First I think it needs to be somebody who loves football.

Somebody who has integrity, somebody who wants to develop the game and wants to put football into the 21st century.

Let’s not forget that football is 150 years old and is the most popular sport in the world. There’s more to come from our game.

It looks like China, Asia, the United States are opening up to football. I believe that the first thing that all these regions will want is integrity.

The game is beautiful, the game is fantastic. Everybody loves the game. Let’s make sure that the organisation has integrity and a clean reputation.

The Fifa presidential election will take place in the new year and the current front-runners are Prince Ali Al-Hussein, the current president of Fifa for Asia, as well as Salman Al Khalifa, the chairman of the Asian football confederation. The outside possibilities include Michel Platini, David Ginola and former chief executive of Manchester United, David Gill.
