Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has admitted he was disappointed with the way his tenure with the club ended, going on to claim the Gunners were in need of both his goals and assists.
The German international and World Cup winner was at the north London side for three years, joining the club in 2012 for an undisclosed fee and scored an average 31 goals in just over 80 appearances – but was berated by supporters for his lack of movement in the final third, despite often being recognised as the best finisher.
Having been loaned out to Inter Milan before being moved on to Galatasaray last summer, 30-year-old Podolski told Portuguese news outlet A Bola that he was surprised with Wenger’s decision to let him go.

This is a question for the coach. I was good, had good records of goals and assists, but the coach went with someone else.
But what frustrates is when you sit on the bench and you feel you can help the team score, make assists. That’s why I spoke to the club and moved.

The German international, who has made over 100 assists for his nation is regarded as one of the best players in the world in the final third – but his inconsistency saw spells at top clubs like Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Inter Milan go to waste.
