On the day that Peter Schmeichel criticised Pep Guardiola for making Bayern Munich a less exciting team, the Bavarian side made the former Manchester United goalkeeper eat his words as they cruised to a 5-1 victory against Arsenal.
After the Gunners’ 2-0 victory at the Emirates two weeks ago, Bayern were clearly eager to resume normality and were well on their way after Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring 10 minutes in.
Mesut Özil may have been unlucky not to have his goal stand minutes later when the ball deflected off his arm and in, though the referees disagreed and Özil was booked.
Bayern continued to turn on the style and thanks to goals from Thomas Muller and a phenomenal strike from David Alaba, it was 3-0 before the half ended.
Arjen Robben came on in the 54th minute and immediately added to Bayern’s lead. Giroud pulled one back for the Gunners with a stunning scissor kick, but Muller got the final word and added to Arsenal’s humiliation.
How did each of the players do on the night?
