# Cazorla – How I’m finding my best form

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla [has told *Arsenal Player*](https://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20151029/cazorla-how-i-have-changed-my-game) that despite playing in a deeper, less familiar role on the pitch, he has found the best form of his career and puts it down to both Arsene Wenger and becoming more defensively aware.

Early last season, Wenger moved the Spaniard into a more central, deeper role next to Francis Coquelin in order to make room for mega-talent Mesut Ozil in the side, who currently occupies the ‘number 10’ role just behind the striker and since moving to the deeper playmaker role, Cazorla has earned plaudits for not only his attacking contribution but also the defensive work rate he has developed.

Despite not being in the position to score more goals, Cazorla admitted he is enjoying the role.

> *The boss changed my position last season to play me more centrally.*
>
> *It’s a position I really* like, *though of course it means I’m further away from the opposing area so I have fewer chances to score. I’m finding my best form and I’m really enjoying the new position.*
>
> *You have different responsibilities. In terms of defence, you have to defend more and you have to help the team more in terms of making sure you’re well-positioned to ensure the players in attack can stay fresh.*
>
> *We need the likes of Mesut, Alexis, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott and Giroud to be fresh – so that means myself, Coquelin, Arteta and Flamini need to be well-positioned to ensure those in attack can perform as well as possible.*

Much of the Gunners’ success can be put down to the Spaniard over the last two years, with him instrumental in his side’s build-up play and he’ll hope to continue that form when Arsenal take on Swansea City this weekend.
