Lahm – We won’t underestimate Arsenal

Arsenal return to the UEFA Champions League campaign in two days, where they’ll host German Champions Bayern Munich.

The European giants’ previous visit to the Emirates Stadium resulted in a 2-0 defeat for the Gunners in the first leg of the last 16 round after Wojciech Szczesny was sent off early on.

This time around, however, the English and Germans meet in the group stages, where after two games, Arsenal are yet to win a point, while Bayern have bagged six out of a possible six.

Ahead of the clash, Bayern Munich captain Phillip Lahm has shared his thoughts on his opponents with the Bundesliga’s official website.

Lahm admits that he believes Arsenal are better than what they have shown in their opening two games of the competition this season.

Anybody who knows about football also knows that Arsenal are better than the way they have started this season in Europe, with two defeats.

They have got some very, very dangerous individuals and certainly it is not going to be easy, but we are ready. We take all of our opponents seriously, otherwise you don’t win nine games in a row in the Bundesliga.

The German went on to talk about the experience of playing in London, and how they prepare the best they can to get the better of their opponents.

We are going to London two days before the game because you always have a lot of travelling to do in London and you often spend a lot of time in traffic and it takes more than an hour to get to training.

It is not the first time we are travelling two days in advance. It is just the way it is, even if we would prefer to stay at home. We always prepare ourselves professionally.

Realistically, to have any chance of progressing to the next stage of the competition, Arsenal need a win or else the mountain they already have to climb will just get bigger and bigger.

Expect Arsenal to go in all guns blazing on Tuesday night, because they need to finally start picking up some points in the Champions League.
