# Cech – We knew it would be difficult

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech [has hailed his side’s performance](https://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20151017/cech-we-needed-to-be-patient) after they defeated Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

After a tough first half performance, Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock after good work from Mesut Ozil, who was brought down in the penalty area before the ball fell to the Chilean and he slotted past the helpless Heurelho Gomes. Little over five minutes later and it was 2-0, with Olivier Giroud meeting Mesut Ozil’s pinpoint pullback to finish high into the back of the net. Aaron Ramsey rounding off the scoring with 15 minutes left to play, with Hector Bellerin drifting inside from the right and playing the Welshman through, whose deflected shot went beyond the Watford ‘keeper.

However, without a few first-half Petr Cech saves, the story could have been a lot different and the 33-year-old former Chelsea man believes that patience was the telling factor between the two sides.

> *It is always difficult going away for the internationals and you come back home and everyone comes back at different times. You have only one day to prepare and you play away from home against a good team that was very solid at home in their previous games.*

> *We knew it was going to be a difficult game. We needed to be patient to score the first goal.*

With Bayern Munich the test for the Gunners on Tuesday night, Cech claims that Arsenal thought only about the test at Vicarage Road.

> *We had a really big game against Manchester United last week before the internationals, so when you win those games \[you have to\] win another game. We treat everybody with the same respect so the three points are vital for us.*
