# Ramsey – This is just the start

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has paid tribute to former Wales boss Gary Speed – for the project he started with the nation before tragically dying in 2011, at the tender age of 42-years-old.

Since then, Chris Coleman has taken over and has reignited the flame that Speed initially lit and has helped Wales to qualify for Euro 2016 for the first time in a massive 57 years.

Ramsey scored the opener for Wales in their Euro 2016 qualifying group game closer against Andorra, before Gareth Bale sealed the three points and the Arsenal man [believes that this is just the start for the Welsh, while paying homage to Speed for his work](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34525515).

> *I know Gary \[Speed\] will be looking down now and what a fantastic set-up he started in the first place.*
>
> *It was always going to be difficult for Chris \[Coleman\] to come in early on, but now he’s done an unbelievable job to take over in the circumstances that he did and to finally achieve something special with this country is a great achievement for him, I’m delighted for him and his staff, hopefully now he can have many successful years with us.*
>
> *We don’t want to just rest on this now, we’ve come so far and worked really hard to get here as a team and hopefully this will just be the start of Wales being competitive year after year.*

Both the Wales players and supporters will now have an enjoyable wait until next summer for the tournament in France, knowing that they are currently representing the nation’s [‘golden generation’ as described by Chris Coleman](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34523385).

The Arsenal midfielder will now turn his attention to Premier League football and the task of taking on Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
