Ramsey – This is just the start

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has paid tribute to former Wales boss Gary Speed – for the project he started with the nation before tragically dying in 2011, at the tender age of 42-years-old.

Since then, Chris Coleman has taken over and has reignited the flame that Speed initially lit and has helped Wales to qualify for Euro 2016 for the first time in a massive 57 years.

Ramsey scored the opener for Wales in their Euro 2016 qualifying group game closer against Andorra, before Gareth Bale sealed the three points and the Arsenal man believes that this is just the start for the Welsh, while paying homage to Speed for his work.

I know Gary [Speed] will be looking down now and what a fantastic set-up he started in the first place.

It was always going to be difficult for Chris [Coleman] to come in early on, but now he’s done an unbelievable job to take over in the circumstances that he did and to finally achieve something special with this country is a great achievement for him, I’m delighted for him and his staff, hopefully now he can have many successful years with us.

We don’t want to just rest on this now, we’ve come so far and worked really hard to get here as a team and hopefully this will just be the start of Wales being competitive year after year.

Both the Wales players and supporters will now have an enjoyable wait until next summer for the tournament in France, knowing that they are currently representing the nation’s ‘golden generation’ as described by Chris Coleman.

The Arsenal midfielder will now turn his attention to Premier League football and the task of taking on Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
