Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has been full of praise for Arsenal legend David Seaman, describing the former Gunner as a calm and special figure.
Seaman made over 500 appearances for the Gunners in a 13-year-long career in north London, and since his retirement in 2004, the former English international has been hailed by pretty much everyone associated with Arsenal. This time it’s current shot-stopper Petr Cech doing the praising, as he spoke to Arsenal Player about the Arsenal great.

His personality [made him special]. When you saw him playing, he was not a goalkeeper who looks spectacular or flies right and left in the goal.
He’s not all over the place, he was just someone who was calm and made important saves at important times. I first really noticed him during Euro 96 here in England because the Czech Republic were doing well and progressing.
In the end Czech Republic played in the final against Germany and as the tournament went on there was a lot of excitement from the England supporters and everybody was saying, ‘This is the team who can finally win the European Championship’.
It started with David Seaman and if you go through the ranks they had some brilliant players.
Those traits from Seaman can certainly be seen in Cech too – someone who is calm, makes important saves and possesses a great personality too. The Czech Republic man will be hoping to become an Arsenal icon and follow in the footsteps of Seaman.

Since his move from Chelsea in the summer, the 33-year-old former Premier League winner has performed brilliantly in Arsenal’s goal, obtaining four clean sheets in the opening eight Premier League games.
Now ahead of the short trip to Watford on 17th October, Cech – as well as Wenger – will be hoping for another clean sheet and keep up the momentum to stay in the title race.
