Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal has hailed his side’s performance against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, claiming that he and his teammates did ‘everything amazingly’, both offensively and defensively.
The Gunners’ 29-year-old Spaniard was a catalyst in the stability provided at the back during a resolute second half, where the north London side’s resolve was more than put to the test.
Speaking to The Final Whistle, Monreal admitted that Alexis Sanchez is a vital part of the success the team can have and despite not hitting the early heights that he displayed last season, the Chilean is now proving himself to be more than just an impact player, but someone who can help Arsenal to achieve real success.
Last year he showed what an important player he is for the team.
He scored 25 goals in all competitions and this season he has started really well.
In the first games, he couldn’t score goals but now he’s scoring goals. We need Alexis to score more goals and we are happy for him because he’s a really important player for us.
When he’s fit, the level of the team is higher, so we are really happy.
The Spaniard then continued, discussing the importance of Arsenal’s quick start against their opponents on Sunday.
We wanted to start stronger because in the last game, we played at home in the Champions League and we lost, so the memory wasn’t good enough for us.
We knew that we were going to play against a strong team so we needed to start really strongly.
I think we did – our first 15 minutes were amazing. We pressed high and I think we did everything amazingly.
For this reason, after 20 minutes we were winning 3-0. We are really happy about our performance.
The north London side return to action in less than two weeks, with the final European qualification games set to begin this week and when Arsenal return, they will be tasked with the tough opposition of Watford away.
