Arsenal fans will have something to hold over the heads of Tottenham fans at work this week after Eric Dier revealed that Gunners legend Tony Adams was a big influence on his career. The 21-year-old moved to White Hart Lane a year ago from Sporting Clube de Portugal and has featured fairly regularly since.
He’s revealed that one of the secrets behind his success is a former Arsenal captain.
Quoted by the Evening Standard, Dier said: “Tottenham fans might not be happy with me for this, but I met Tony Adams quite a few times.
He came away with us when I played for England when I was younger and it was great to be around him.
I think it was when I was with the Under-19s.
One day in training we were a player short so he trained with us – and it was great. It was unbelievable.
I don’t know how old he was at the time by his body was past it, yet he managed to cope because he could read the game so well and just talked non-stop.

Dier is no longer playing for the under-19s, and is instead now a level higher, due in part to his move to north London. However, it can be questioned if he’d even be at the club were it not for Adams.
Then again, perhaps Spurs fans should be thankful to Adams. Dier has started in all 5 of their Premier League games so far this season, mostly in a midfield role, and although they’ve only just got their first win, he’s starting to become an important player for the club he joined for £4m 12 months ago.
