Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen has spoken out and compared his two previous clubs; Ajax and Arsenal, with his current employers in Spain.
The Belgian international has only made a single appearance under Luis Enrique in an season which was constantly damaged by numerous injuries.
A player who came through the ranks at Ajax, Vermaelen moved to play under Arsene Wenger in north London back in 2009 and enjoyed a five-year spell at the Emirates before making the switch to the current La Liga and European champions.
Having spent time learning about his new club, the 29-year-old is a firm believer that both his previous clubs have the same philosophy as Barcelona.
Speaking to the official club website, Vermaelen admitted that all three clubs look to create as many chances as possible.
It’s the same philosophy. They are teams who want to play football to entertain and to avoid long balls.
To keep the ball on the ground, scoring as much as possible and create a lot of chances.

And now having recovered from the hamstring problems which kept him on the sidelines for the majority of last season, Vermaelen is hoping to fight his way into the first team contention.
