Polish legend claims Szczesny is better than Cech

Arsenal’s Polish international Wojciech Szczesny is a better ‘keeper than new signing Petr Cech. The claim comes from Polish legend Zbigniew Boniek, who played 80 games between the sticks for the Polish national side.

Arsene Wenger allowed Szczesny to go out on a season-long loan to Roma this season following the signing of Cech from London rivals Chelsea.

However, speaking to TMW, Boniek believes that sending the Polish shot stopper on loan was a mistake by the Arsenal manager.

Szczesny has a “dry” loan for a year… but if all goes well I am convinced that he will remain with Roma, Arsenal made a mistake to send him away, he is much stronger than Cech.

The Polish legend claims that Szczesny is enjoying himself in Italy and has become acquitted to life in the Italian capital and thus would be more than willing to stay at the club after his loan has ended.

He is very happy to stay in Rome, he is happy with the team.

Szczesny has been at Arsenal since 2006 and has made 181 appearances for the Gunners. In that time, he has won two FA Cups and the FA Community Shield as well as sharing the golden glove accolade with Petr Cech two seasons ago.

Arsene Wenger has always defended the Polish ‘keeper and as such may only be using the loan as an opportunity for Szczesny to mature and develop, ready to step into Cech’s shoes after he retires.
