# Laurent Koscielny could miss Stoke tie with injury

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny watched on as his national France defeated Serbia by two goals to one at the Stade Bordeaux-Atlantique, with thanks to a Blaise Matuidi brace in the first half.

Aleksandar Mitrovic of Newcastle scored a goal late in the first half for the away side, a goal that gave his side hope – but the French held on to secure consecutive defeats, after beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal 1-0 last week.

Despite the big win for the French, Koscielny will be disappointed that he could have no part to play in the result, with Raphael Varane starting alongside Liverpool fan-favourite Mamadou Sakho, with the latter struggling to start as of late for his club.

29-year-old Koscielny was [reported by Canal+](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2015/laurent-koscielny-missed-france-vs-serbia-through-injury/?)to have missed the game due to an injury to his psoas, which is located on the spine – and while the Arsenal defender’s absence was merely precautionary, the extent of the injury remains unclear and could see Koscielny miss the visit of Stoke City to the Emirates Stadium, with the Premier League season getting back underway this weekend.
