Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has expressed his belief that it is possible for England to win Euro 2016.
Vaishali Bhardwaj of the Evening Standard quoted the striker expressing his optimism after his two goals helped ease England to a routine 6-0 defeat of San Marino, making England the first team to mathematically guarantee a top-two spot in their qualifying group.
The belief is there, the confidence is there, so why not?
He is certainly confident that the national team is heading in the right direction after a disappointing World Cup, having won all seven of their matches in qualification Group E.
I think this team is getting better and better.
That’s what we want to do going into [Euro 2016] next year.

Walcott recognises that “big tests” lay ahead for the England team, who have rarely been challenged in a soft qualification group, but he said that locker room morale is strong and that the team was “improving every day.” He attributed that in part to the strength of the Premier League, which he called “the best league in the world.”
England’s passage to France looks all the more impressive when one considers how teams like the Netherlands and Belgium are finding it unexpectedly difficult to progress through qualification despite the expansion to 24 teams. Only time will tell if it is a sign of things to come next summer.
