During the summer transfer window, Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez emerged as a surprise transfer target for Arsenal. However, it appears that the Gunners were unsuccessful in a Deadline Day bid for the player and so were left empty-handed, with Petr Cech being their only acquisition.
El Mundo Deportivo have claimed that the north London club made a last-ditch attempt to sign the Algerian international on the final day of the window, but were unsuccessful in their approaches and by the end of the day had been left without having signed an outfield player.

Arsenal fans were left feeling disappointed by the club’s transfer activity over the summer, especially after seeing that they were the only club among Europe’s top five leagues not to have made any additions to their outfield squad.
The Gunners’ faithful will be equally upset that they missed out on Mahrez after his dazzling start to the new Barclays Premier League season, which sees him as the joint top goalscorer in the league after four games.
