Arsenal have confirmed that Danny Welbeck will be out for ‘a period of months’ following surgery on his left knee.
The 24-year old has been out of action since April, missing out on the last few games of the league season, as well as the FA Cup final victory against Aston Villa.

Arsene Wenger suggested just over a month ago that Danny Welbeck could be back in the squad for the Gunners’ game against Stoke on September 12th.
However, it would appear that, despite months of rehabilitation and training to get back to full fitness, surgery is not avoidable, leaving manager Arsene Wenger with a headache now that Arsenal’s attacking options are further limited.
The injury setback may also leave Arsenal fans to further question the manager’s decision not to add another attacking player during the transfer window, with Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott the only striker options for the foreseeable future.
Welbeck scored eight times in 34 appearances for the club last season, including the winner against former club Manchester United in the FA Cup, and his first professional hat-trick.
