Speaking on Tuesday’s Total Football Live event brought by the Daily Telegraph, as exclusively quoted through the ReadArsenal Twitter page by Deano Spyrou, Paul Lambert has reassured Arsenal fans that they will “definitely be in contention [of winning the league title next season]”.
ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley, also in the studio, agreed:
Arsenal’s issue isn’t quality. There are lots of high quality players. You [Arsenal] will be in contention [to win the Premier League title].
The Gunners’ fans have been left disgruntled following a frustrating transfer window where they have failed to sign an outfield player. Their mere acquisition of Petr Cech leaves them amongst the lowest spenders in the Barclays’ Premier League this summer, and an early loss to West Ham United at home didn’t push manager Arsène Wenger to dip into the market for another name.
The likes of Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani have been linked to the north London club in recent months, but despite their inability to sign a player, the pundits on show are still confident that Arsenal could have a strong season – a nice thing to hear for the fans.
