Player Ratings: Newcastle United 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal came out 1-0 victors in what was to be a comfortable match against 10-man Newcastle. Here’s how the players rated:

Petr Cech: 6/10

Certainly Cech’s most comfortable match in an Arsenal shirt as he wasn’t troubled with Newcastle only having one shot on target.

Hector Bellerin: 7/10

A great game from Hector Bellerin. Consistently troubling Newcastle’s left-hand side and was wrongly denied a penalty early in the first half. Only positives to take out of this game for the young Spaniard.

Laurent Koscielny: 6.5/10

The Frenchman’s return to the side certainly made Arsenal’s defence look stronger. An early red card for Newcastle meant that Laurent came under a lot of less pressure, in what was a solid performance for the French international.

Gabriel Paulista: 6.5/10

The Brazilian kept his place in the side and had a very solid performance. He seemed very comfortable and it was a much more plain sailing game than last week for Gabriel.

Nacho Monreal: 7/10

Arguably the most consistent player in the squad, Monreal had an excellent game for Arsenal today. He was a major threat down the left-hand side.

Francis Coquelin: 6.5/10

A good performance from Coquelin today. He was also subject to a challenge which gave Mitrovic a red card, making it an easy game for Arsenal.

Santi Cazorla: 6/10

A decent performance from Santi, who linked play up well and getting involved with the play. He did lack creativity at times though.

Aaron Ramey: 6.5/10

A good performance from Ramsey today. Pulled off a few good shots and created plenty of chances.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 7/10

A great performance from the Ox today and played a major part in the only goal of the game, as it was his shot that was deflected of Coloccini leading to the own goal.

Alexis Sanchez: 6.5/10

A decent performance from Alexis today. Had a lot of good shots saved from an in-form Tim Krul and will feel unlucky that he didn’t score.

Theo Walcott: 6.5/10

Even though Theo missed a few chances, he still had a good game and was a constant threat to Newcastle with his pace and mazy runs.

Substitutes:

Olivier Giroud: 6/10

Giroud was left out of the starting line-up after a disappointing performance against Liverpool. Linked up play quite well but he missed a couple of chances that he really should have tucked away.

Mikel Arteta: N/A
