Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has taken his first steps on the football management ladder by coaching the Arsenal U18s.
The Frenchman is currently completing his coaching badges and has been given the opportunity by former boss Arsene Wenger to work closely with the club’s youth academy to further his experience.
He’s a potential candidate to replace Wenger in the future, who believes Henry’s coaching of the youth academy will play a key part in aiding is development.
Speaking in Arsenal’s matchday programme, Wenger said: “Thierry Henry has been working with the U18s. He discovers what the job is about and you have to go through that process if you want to one day coach or manage a football team.
“You have to learn the job first and he is doing his license now. That’s the best way to do it.”
Henry, Arsenal’s all-time leading goalscorer, will surely teach the club’s young prospects a thing or two, and Wenger added: “The job of a player is centred on you and the job of a coach is centred on others. You forget about you and focus on how you can help people.
“It demands a psychological and mental transformation.
“It also demands thinking about how you can get what you know available to other people in the most simplistic way.”
The Frenchman would be another Arsenal legend who has progressed into a managerial role, following the likes of Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp, Remi Garde and Tony Adams.
Could Henry end up as the Arsenal manager in the future? You never know, but based on his love and admiration for the club, it could very well happen.
