Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit to bolster their attacking options as Andriy Yarmolenko has declined a move to the Emirates, according to Sport.
The Spanish media outlet say Arsene Wenger called Yarmolenko himself to try and persuade him to move to north London, but the Kyiv captain said: “I appreciate the interest, but my dream is to play for Barcelona.”
Arsenal have been very quiet in the transfer market so far, having made just one significant signing in the form of Petr Cech.
Wenger’s reported pursuit of Karim Benzema was seemingly put to bed by the Frenchman on Monday night and with Yarmolenko distancing himself from a move, the possibility of Arsenal signing anyone before the window closes next Tuesday appears to be slim.
Everton have been in negotiations with Dynamo Kyiv and were believed to have agreed a fee of around £15million last week, but talks between the two clubs have stalled.
Barcelona have also been linked with the Ukrainian star, but they are unable to sign anyone until January 2016, due to their transfer ban.
