Aaron Ramsey claims that football can learn a lot from Rugby in the way that it handles disputes. Following the 0-0 clash at the Emirates between Arsenal and Liverpool, where an incorrect offside call ruled out Ramsey’s would-be match winner, the Gunners ace believes that the sport as a whole would benefit from video technology
Now, Tony Banks, writing for The Express, reports that Ramsey remains adamant that his goal should have stood: “The replays suggest I was onside. It should have stood but obviously the linesman thought it was offside.
“I thought I held my run a bit, I thought I was onside, but I took a glance over to make sure and saw the flag was up.”
In Rugby, a video referee can be consulted if the referee is not absolutely confident in his decision. The video referee will review each circumstance several times at different angles to determine the correct decision.
Aaron Ramsey stated that the idea of video technology would be strongly backed by most other players: “Most players want video technology. At the end of the day we should have been 1-0 up.”

The Welsh international moved on to suggest that such a simple change to the sport would offer a world of benefits.
“To look at a video for 20 seconds would have maybe changed the outcome of the game.
“I think we could take a leaf out of rugby. They do it really well. You see it on the screens, they go off for 20 seconds and they get the decision right in the end.
“Football can learn something from that.”
The call for video technology has been around for some time and yet there has been no development of the idea and so it seems that for the time being, footballers and fans alike will have to make do with the referee’s decision.
