According to Spanish newspaper AS, Arsenal are leading the chase for Real Madrid’s Brazilian defensive midfielder Lucas Silva. It is understood that Silva has become unhappy at the Spanish giants due to his lack of playing time, making only nine appearances for Real since his move to the Spanish capital in January. It was rumoured that Silva would be going on loan to secure more playing time, however reports have started to emerge of a permanent departure from Madrid being on the table.

It’s believed that Silva is available for around €14 million, what Real Madrid paid to secure his services in January. Despite supposedly being in the driving seat, Arsenal will face stiff competition for Silva, whose admirers are said to include Manchester United and Chelsea among others. This will come as welcome news for Arsenal fans, who have been crying for a new midfield anchor.
Francis Coquelin impressed last season upon his return from a loan spell at Charlton Athletic, however many feel a new man is needed in the role. This is either to increase competition and inspire the Frenchman, or to outright replace him. Silva’s consistently excellent performances for Cruzerio caught the eye of many big clubs in Europe, but it was eventually Real who secured his signature.
At 22 years old and with little experience however, many may be left wanting if the Brazilian does move to north London.
