The dilemma that now faces Arsene Wenger is who should be playing centre forward for the first team, Theo Walcott or Olivier Giroud. Both contain different, but very good assets. Walcott’s obvious plus points are his blistering pace and ability to run in behind, which are both top class, Giroud plays a massive part in bringing the midfield into play in my opinion and the likes of Aaron Ramsey benefited greatly from this in the season in which he scored 10 Premier League goals. Giroud is also an out-ball, it’s easy to pump the ball forward to him and he can hold it up exceptionally.
Both are good at finding the net, with Theo’s best season in front of goal coming in the 2012/13 season in which he scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists mostly from the wing with Giroud’s best season being last season in which he scored 14 goals in 21 games, he also broke his leg at the beginning of the season, returning with a bang against Manchester United scoring arguably his best goal.
Overall, I would rather Olivier leading the line as he brings a lot to the team, but Walcott can still operate on the wing. Although Theo’s preferable position is centre forward as he publicly made clear. This is a dilemma for Arsene to figure out, but it is a good one considering a team who wants to challenge for the title needs a quality back up in nearly every position. I still feel Arsenal are a top class striker and another defensive midfielder short of winning the title, but nobody can argue against the fact the team has come on leaps and bounds considering 4th place was almost celebrated as a trophy 20in 12/13 which embarrassed many.
