Arsenal target signs new deal

Arsenal have suffered a major blow with regards to a potential transfer target this summer, as Alexandre Lacazette agrees a new contract with his current side Lyon.

The Gunners had previously been interested in the 24-year-old, who finished as top scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 27 goals, more than the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.

Speaking about his deal, Lacazette said: “I am happy and proud to extend my contract.

“People can stop talking. Now I hope they will speak of me because I’m scoring and Lyon are winning.”

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas went on to say: “I am very happy that Alexandre Lacazette extends for one year until 2019!”

Lacazette’s new contract extends his current deal by another year, taking it to 2019, but the major news will be the increased wages that the French forward will be receiving.

Lyon start their campaign tomorrow against Lorient, and this will come as fantastic news for the French side’s faithful, who had previously been frustrated by the lack of effort shown in pre-season training by Lacazette.

With no imminent signings at the Emirates, fans will be wondering if Arsene Wenger has completed his summer business, having brought in Petr Cech as well as a host of young talent.
