Arsenal’s young German winger Serge Gnabry has today completed his move to West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan deal, which was initially expected to last until January with an option to extend.
Gnabry has found his first team opportunities limited at the Emirates, and will hopefully find some more playing time in the Midlands. Gnabry joined Arsenal from Stuttgart in 2011 for £100,000, and the 20-year-old made some promising displays for the Gunners.
The 2013/14 season proved to be Gnabry’s finest for the Gunners, making 14 first team appearances and scoring the decisive goal against Swansea City which left Arsenal at the top of the league.
His regularly stellar performances for Arsenal during this season also led to a nomination for the ‘Golden Boy’ award, and he penned a new 5-year contract with the Gunners.
Gnabry made his last first team appearance against Bayern Munich at the Allianz in the Champions League, where he sustained a serious knee injury that restricted his playing time for the rest of the season and the season after.
The 20-year-old most recently showcased his talents in the UEFA European u21 Championships, as Germany reached the semi-finals, losing 5-0 to eventual runners up Sweden.
If the German winger can get a decent amount of playing time, and experience under his belt during the loan spell, he may be able to fight his way back in to the Arsenal side and rediscover the fine form he has previously shown.
