With Jack Wilshere recently having injured himself again in training, another setback to his career will certainly have the 23-year-old in a bad way. It is clear to see that Wilshere is a very talented footballer and always gives his all on the pitch, but what will Arsenal miss most about him in his absence?
Passion
Whenever you watch Jack Wilshere play, you cannot help but notice his infectious passion for Arsenal. He plays with a certain swagger and confidence that denotes his pride for the playing for the club. As a boyhood fan of the club it is in no doubt that whenever he pulls on the red and white of Arsenal he is living his dream; it’s just a shame that his injury record is holding him back.
Technique
Jack Wilshere is undoubtedly one of, if not the most technically gifted footballer in the current England team, and he is right up there in the Arsenal side as well. His close-quarter control of the ball makes him a nightmare for defenders who end up having to simply foul Wilshere in order to stop him because they have no hope of touching the ball.
Fearless
If there is one thing that you can count on Wilshere for, it’s his fearless streak. He is a player that is never afraid or willing to back down to an opponent; no matter how much bigger they are than him. Arsenal, in recent years, have become known as one of the softer teams in the Premier League, often being bullied off the ball and so in such a team, Wilshere’s ferocity sticks out like a sore thumb and in truth, is nice to see. The fact that players like him are still willing to fight tooth and nail for every decision shows just how much playing football means to him.
Goals
It is pretty clear to see that Wilshere doesn’t score boring goals. In his last game for England, he scored two stunners from outside of the box to help England to yet another good result. His goal against Norwich was a work of elegance and the physical embodiment of what football is truly all about. It would be fair to say that the Arsenal number 10 doesn’t score too many goals, but when he does, you will definitely know all about them.
Depth
As much as Arsenal will miss Jack for his goals, skills and passion, they will equally miss him on a tactical level. If you look at the current Arsenal side, there are few central midfielders that you would trust to start. Francis Coquelin has made the defensive midfield role his own over the last six months but what will happen if he gets injured? Wilshere would have naturally filled the void because he can play equally effectively deeper as he can in an attacking role (where he can play anywhere across the middle 3 in the attack).
Arteta and Flamini can also play in this role, but at their age, they must only be played against weaker opposition and that is why Wilshere is so important; he can fill the gaps anywhere in midfield.
With Wilshere out injured for another couple of months, it can only be said that Arsenal fans wish him a speedy recovery so that he can return to full fitness and take to the field in the red and white colours once again!
