A new contract, a strong finish to the 2014/15 campaign, and a full pre-season… It’s been a good summer for Theo Walcott, and Aaron Ramsey has backed him to have a big season and reach the “100 Club”.
Since joining the club from Southampton as a 16-year-old in 2006, the England international has scored 76 times in 302 appearances for the Gunners.
Walcott ended the 2014/15 campaign by scoring four times in two matches, including the opener in Arsenal’s 4-0 FA Cup final victory against Aston Villa.
Ramsey, who has had a big few seasons himself, believes his team-mate will reach new heights this season, and told Arsenal Player: “He did very well at the end of last year. He’s had a good pre-season.
“He looks sharp, he looks strong and he can be dangerous.”
Walcott played a full pre-season after recovering from a series of injuries in the past couple of seasons, and twice got his name on the score sheet playing as the lone striker.
Walcott needs 24 goals this season if he wants to join the 100 club, and Ramsey has full confidence that Walcott can continue his impressive form from the previous season and make that happen: “He is a goalscorer – he has a load of goals for Arsenal and I think he can carry that on and maybe get into the 100 Club this year.
“He’s a very strong character. He believes in his abilities and he definitely has a lot of qualities to offer.
“He can finish – one of the hardest things to do in football is to put the ball in the back of the net and he’s done it on numerous occasions for Arsenal. Hopefully he can continue doing that.”
