Arsenal have been constantly linked with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema throughout the summer and recently, the Gunners were said to be preparing a £46m bid for the former Lyon man.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger however denied rumours of this by claiming ‘nothing is happening‘. Real Madrid’s newly appointed manager Rafael Benitez further quashed the rumours by stating that he thinks the French striker will remain in Madrid.
Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla has now backed both managers’ remarks by stating he does not think Arsene Wenger will try to sign the 27-year-old forward, but did not hold back from praising him.
“I’m not very aware on whether there is any interest or not,” he said, speaking to Cadena Cope.
“The manager knows it better than anyone. Benzema is a great player. Every side would like to have him but I think the manager already has his team made and probably he is not looking for another striker.“
“Benzema fits into any team. The good players fit well in every side. He has quality and would adapt great.“
This will be disappointing news for many Arsenal fans who think that the north London club still need to add to their firepower up front. However, Arsenal have been handed transfer boosts with Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuaín and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette both reportedly reluctant to sign new contracts at their respective clubs.
