Chuba Akpom has officially joined Championship side Hull City on a season long loan.
The 19 year old will play with the Tigers alongside Arsenal loanee Isaac Hayden until the end of the 2015/2016 campaign as they look to regain promotion to the Premier League under Steve Bruce.
Akpom had a good pre-season for Arsenal, scoring a match winning hat-trick in the Barclays Asia Trophy. It was expected that he would remain at the club after he expressed his desire to stay, but perhaps Arsene Wenger thought it would be best if he could gain playing time elsewhere as he would be far down the pecking order behind Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and possibly a new striker still to join.
It’s not the first loan move for the England u20 International, after previously being loaned out to Brentford, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest. He failed to score in each of the three loans though, so Arsenal fans will hope that this one will be a change of fortune.
Chuba Akpom will be looking to imitate the success story of Francis Coquelin whose determination and hard work resulted in him becoming a starter at Arsenal, despite the odds.
