# Bennacer talks why he chose Arsenal

Ismael Bennacer is yet another promising youngster to have come out of France in recent times, and following his move to Arsenal last week he has [spoken out](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/457280/Ismael-Bennacer-Arsenal-transfer-news-French-of-English-clubs)about how the confidence Arsene Wenger had in him played a major factor in his decision to leave his native homeland.

*“He told me that he was happy for me, that he thought I had the potential to succeed here.”*

Bennacer also felt that the connection with French football that Arsenal have was another important aspect that would allow for his move from France to England to be as smooth and comfortable as possible.

*“I was a little worried in my head about going abroad. I have never left home before, I thought about staying in France in order to accumulate game time too… (Arsenal is) the most French of the English clubs.”*

The youngster admitted that he had initially been afraid of getting lost at a club as big as the Gunners – but after having viewed the facilities, he was in no doubt that Arsenal was the right club for him.

*“That is what made me a little scared at the beginning, but when I saw the condition of the training centre, I realised that there isn’t a better place for me to progress. It is up to me to prove myself, they gave me a 5 year contract so they must have confidence in me.”*

Last season Bennacer made 6 appearances for Arles-Avignon, scoring once and as such shows that he has promise. However, it remains yet to be seen whether or not Bennacer will develop into the player that Arsene Wenger believes he will be but for all Arsenal fans, this should be a player to keep an eye on for the future.
