Flamini rejects Galatasaray

Reports in Turkey suggest that Arsenal Frenchman Mathieu Flamini has turned down a bid to join Turkish Giants Galatasaray in a £4 million deal, according to Fanatik.

The 31-year-old midfielder claims he wants to see out the rest of his contract at the Emirates, where he has just one-year remaining and will most likely end up leaving the Gunners next summer on a free transfer, unless he’s given a generous contract extension.

Flamini is currently set for his his second spell at Arsenal after returning from Italian side AC Milan, having been there for five years. He joined the north London Side in 2004, spending four fairly successful years at Arsenal, and won the FA Cup in 2005, then seeing the Gunners make their big move across north London to the Emirates Stadium, leaving Highbury behind, before jetting off to Italy in the summer of 2008.

Arsenal have very recently lost out of favour forward Lukas Podolski, to Galatasaray, with the German previously spending a period on loan at AC Milan’s rivals Inter.

Mathieu appeared for Arsenal 23 times last season, scoring only 1 goal and recording an equal amount of assists.

With the amount of depth and options Wenger has this season in the midfield area, Flamini isn’t as important an asset to the side as he was a couple of seasons ago. Nevertheless, he remains an Arsenal player for now.
