Mesut Ozil has voiced his confidence about the current Arsenal squad, following their resounding victory in the Emirates Cup last weekend after they retained the trophy with the highest ever point tally. Mesut Ozil, speaking to German news wire SID said that he is confident that the Gunners will improve on the foundations of last season and make a push for more success.
“For my liking, we are better than last season… And I think that this year we trust ourselves to improve [the place in the standings] a bit this season.”
The German international who has 12 goals in 71 appearances for Arsenal also feels as though the squad spirit is as high as it has ever been and as such he feels very comfortable in his attacking midfield role.
“I am super happy with the no. 10 position.
“The team spirit in our squad is right 100 percent. Our third place finish last season and the FA Cup victory were no coincidence”.
Mesut Ozil featured for Arsenal in both games during the Emirates Cup, bagging himself 2 assists while scoring one as well. This form can only be a good sign for Arsene Wenger who went without Ozil between October and January last season following an injury, but the German’s form in the latter stages of the season should be more than enough for Wenger to gain confidence from.
