Mikel Arteta has spoken about the level of belief in the team that they can succeed this season, following Emirates Cup triumph.
The Gunners won the pre-season tournament for the first time in five years, scoring seven goals in two games and winning both matches, putting an end to a successful pre-season ahead of the Community Shield clash against Premier League holders Chelsea.
With the first team and squad depth appearing in great balance going into next season, supported by top-class signings in the last few years, Arteta is backing the team to deliver, saying to Arsenal Player: “We have been together a while now and we have this belief now that we are capable of achieving something important, it took some time to build this cohesion, this momentum.
“I think the crowd is feeling much closer to the team at the moment and together we can make it.”
The Arsenal club captain also spoke of his side’s pre-season, where they scored 14 and only conceded four. The Emirates faithful certainly believe it sets the Gunners up well for the upcoming season, and the Spaniard appears to agree: “I think pre-season has been good. The tour in Singapore was great as well, probably the best we have had.
“Here, the opponents were tough but we managed to play well and win both games.”
The belief appears set in the squad that they can come together and produce a season of great success in the 2015/16 campaign – it remains to be seen whether this feeling can be replicated onto the pitch, and whether Arsenal can lift their first Premier League title win in over a decade.
