On form Arsenal forward Theo Walcott is set to commit his future to the Gunners by signing a fresh £100,000 a week deal that will keep him at the club until 2019, reports the Telegraph Sport.
There has been much speculation recently over what lies ahead for the Englishman, and where he would be playing his football next season, but on going talks with the club and Walcott have seemed to have come to a positive conclusion for many relieved Arsenal fans, as it seems he will be staying at the club, becoming one of Arsenal’s highest earners.
A report in the Sunday Mirror claims that’s the deal between the two parties should be done and dusted before Arsenal kick off their Premier League campaign at home to West Ham on Sunday 9th August.
This is a blow for Liverpool, as they have had their sights set on the 26-year-old for some time, and hoped to sign him this summer, if negotiations between the player and the North London side had fallen through.
Walcott had been Arsenal’s stand out player in the closing weeks of the 2014/15 campaign, playing as a striker, after his last couple of unfortunate seasons had been hampered with career threatening injuries, and recorded a hat trick against West Brom on the last game of the season, before being selected ahead of Olivier Giroud as an only Striker in the FA Cup Final against Aston Villa in May, where he fired in the first of four Gunners goals in a 4-0 win, leading to their second FA Cup winners medal in consecutive seasons.
The imminent contract deal is huge weight off the shoulders for many involved with the Club, as Arsenal’s attacking options have weakened since the departure’s of Lukas Podolski to Galatasaray, and French Striker Yaya Sanogo, who has gone on loan to Eredivsie giants Ajax this summer, leaving a hole only Olivier Giroud can fill, meaning Theo Walcott along with an expected summer arrival, can bolster the Gunners attacking forces.
Club Director, Lord Harris, has recently increased Arsenal fans’ hopes, and had spoken out that Arsene Wenger has the money, and full support from the Arsenal board to go out and buy a Superstar, with the likes of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette in the frame as the recent favourites.
Arsenal fans though, should know not to get their hopes too high, despite Wenger breaking the clubs transfer fee with a £42.5m signing in Mesut Özil in 2013, and signing Chilean, Alexis Sanchez last Summer for a hefty price.
Nevertheless, if they are to be disappointed with their expectations of a World Class Striker arrival not met this term, Gooners all over the world can rely on Theo Walcott to put a few in the back of the net.
