According to Tony Stenson of the Daily Star, Besiktas are keenly monitoring Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck situation and are interested in his services.
Welbeck moved to North London on last summer’s deadline day for an estimated £16m. However, after an encouraging start in the red and white, injuries and inconsistencies meant that he lost his place to Olivier Giroud.
Currently nursing a knee injury, Welbeck has been on the peripheries of the team and could be open to a move.
Recently, Lord Harris confirmed Arsene Wenger’s interest in purchasing a center forward, which if materializes could push Welbeck closer to the exit door.
“On the list is a centre forward, but I’m not going to tell you who he is,” the Arsenal director had said. “You’ve got to get the other team to want to sell him, but I think he wants to come.”
Besiktas’ manager Şenol Güneş are looking for someone to replace Demba Ba after his exit to Shanghai Shenhua, and while nabbing the signature of Ricardo Quaresma will help, President Fikret Orman does not think it is enough.
Indeed, the report suggest that he is even willing to fly to London in an attempt to persuade the Englishman to end his stint with Arsenal.
Having said that, it seems unlike Wenger to let go of an English international after one season, considering even Gervinho got two. It remains to be seen if anything materializes, but the odds do not look bright for Besiktas.
