Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that talented 19-year-old winger Alex Iwobi is integrating well with the squad and is set to feature in the Emirates Cup, as well as Chuba Akpom, who impressed at the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore.
Iwobi featured heavily against the Select Singapore XI, impressing throughout the game with his trickery, movement and desire both on and off the ball. Wenger also says that a number of other youngsters could feature in the Emirates Cup.
Chuba Akpom scored a well taken hat-trick for the club in a 4-0 win, and Arsene Wenger says that he is a certainty for the Emirates Cup, which is coming up this weekend and includes Olympique Lyonnais, VfL Wolfsburg and Vilarreal.
Wenger said: “The first name that comes to mind [to play] is certainly Chuba Akpom because he has done well on tour. Maybe two or three more will feature, certainly Alex Iwobi will be very close to making the team for these games as well.
“I like [Iwobi’s] team attitude, his movement. We have a game based on movement and speed, and he integrates that very well.
“He has good power and is usually efficient – he scores goals a lot – and he had two good chances against Singapore. He missed them but usually he is capable of scoring.”
